How often should I have my HVAC system serviced?

 

All HVAC systems should be inspected and serviced at least once a year. This ensures that you maintain maximum efficiency and detect early warning signs of likely breakdowns.

How often should I clean or replace my filters?

 

·To maintain maximum efficiency & filtration, replace or clean your filters at least once a month.

 

What temperature should I set my thermostat in summer and winter?

 

·  Summer: 78-82°F- To cut back on energy bill and avoid overworking your HVAC  system this range is perfect.

 

·  Winter: 68-72°F- We live in Texas so winter heating is never really a necessity. If you feel the need to turn on your system  aim for 68-72°F.

 

Remember that all HVAC systems are designed to work at temperatures below 95°F, so don’t expect your home to  cool to 70°F when temperatures outside exceed 95 °F.

 

What does the recommended maintenance for an HVAC system include?

 

· Air Filters: Replacing the air filter on a consistent bases will save you money over the lifetime of the HVAC system. The added benefit of proper air filter maintenance is improved indoor air quality

·  Thermostat Calibration: We make sure that your thermostat is calibrated properly so that it turns on and off only as needed.

·  Refrigerant Pressures: We check them to make sure that they’re where they need to be to keep  your system running as effectively as possible.

What are my options when I have an R-22 system that breaks down?

 

As of 2012 the HVAC industry has begun the process of converting from the ozone-depleting R-22 refrigerant to R-410A an environmentally friendly alternative. If you have an R-22 system it needs to be maintained at all times, because once it fails  more than likely you will be forced to replace it with an R-410A system.  Converting an R-22 HVAC system to R-410A is a major undertaking and is not a do-it-yourself type of project. What rebates are available right now?

 

-Depends on the City you live in, below will be information on Austin.

- The city of Austin continues to offer rebates for new high efficiency systems. The prerequisites include:

-You must receive electricity from Austin Energy

- Contractor must be a City of Austin Registered Contractor  (Nathan is a City of Austin Registered Contractor)

-Your system must be 10 years or older.

-Rebate application must be submitted within 60 days of  installation

How can I increase the efficiency and lifetime of my HVAC system?

 

 Simple steps you can take to increase the efficiency and lifespan of your system:

-First:  replace your air filters frequently (Monthly)

-Second:  Installs curtains/ shades in rooms that are exposed to extreme sunlight.

- Third: give us a call to run maintenance at least once a year.

 

How much does a new HVAC replacement system cost?

 

·Every home, building, and business is different.  It is nearly impossible to put an exact price on a new system. Call us for a for a free estimate of replacing your HVAC system.

 

What size air conditioning and HVAC system do I need?

 

·It all depends on your needs and the size of your home or business. Having a system that is too large may cool your home too quickly. This can cause excessive moisture that could lead to mold problems. At the other end you could have a system that runs consistently but never cools your home to the proper temperature. What is considered "Up to Standard" for an energy efficient home?
 

Your home should have:

-Proper insulation

-Double painted windows

-Plumbing penetration seals

-Clean filters

-Clean outdoor unit

-Some natural shade for your house.
